A fiddle riddle

The Cantrells bare their souls at Radio Cafe

Which is more soulful, the voice of singer Emily Cantrell or the fiddle playing of her hubby, Al?

It's a close call, but listeners can decide Saturday between the Joni Mitchell-like pipes of Emily and the plaintive fiddle of Al when the folk duo plays Radio Cafe.

If they look familiar, that may be because you spied them in the film A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT, in which they appear as musicians in the church picnic scene. They've also performed on such National Public Radio programs as MOUNTAIN STAGE, FOLK SAMPLER and RIDERS RADIO THEATER.

The Cantrells play at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Radio Cafe, 1313 Woodland St.
